Fumiaki MIURA

Fumiaki Miura is not only the youngest-ever winner of the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition Hannover (2009) but also the most highly awarded in its history, having received both the Music Critics' Prize and the Audience Prize. The Japanese violinist has already established himself as one of the most refined and accomplished artists of his generation.
Since 2018, Miura has served as Artistic Leader of Suntory Hall ARK Classics, and in 2024 he was appointed Music Director of the Miyazaki International Music Festival.
He has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, SWR Symphonieorchester Stuttgart, WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, among many others.
He has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Pinchas Zukerman, Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Robin Ticciati, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and Jakub Hrůša, and has been invited to major international festivals including the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, the Festival de Menton, and the Menuhin Festival Gstaad.
In recital, Miura made his Paris debut at the auditorium of Louvre Museum and his London debut at Wigmore Hall, and has served as Artist-in-Residence with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. A passionate chamber musician, he has performed frequently with artists such as Pinchas Zukerman and Mischa Maisky, and in 2023 he gave a duo recital with Maria João Pires.
In 2024, to mark the 15th anniversary of his debut, Miura presented a critically acclaimed three-concert cycle of Beethoven's Complete Violin Sonatas at Suntory Hall and The Symphony Hall Osaka. That same year, he appeared in subscription concerts with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2025 he performed with the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony.
In recent years, Miura has also been expanding his career as a conductor, earning praise for his performances with orchestras such as the Alicante Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, and Yamagata Symphony Orchestra.
Miura's debut recording, featuring Prokofiev's Violin Sonatas Nos. 1 and 2 with Itamar Golan, was released on Sony Japan. His second album, featuring Mendelssohn's and Tchaikovsky's Violin Concertos with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin conducted by Hannu Lintu, appeared on Avex Classics in 2015. Since then, they have released numerous CDs through AVEX, including the complete collection of Beethoven's Violin Sonatas.
He also played a central role in recording the theme music for NHK's historical drama Sanadamaru with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, one of Japan's most celebrated television series.
Fumiaki Miura performs on the 1732 "Kaston" Guarneri del Gesù violin, generously loaned by Crystco Inc. and its CEO, Mr. Hikaru Shimura.
